New Greenwich Village cozy hot spot restaurant The Lion roared into town last week with crowds galore clamoring to snag a reservation or even a spot at the bar for opening week. I was lucky enough to grab a reservation for Friday night, if you call lucky enough waiting an hour for my table while being showered with free champagne and told nicely to stand tight. Celebrities, power players, socialites, foodies and poseurs all made the scene in an attempt to sample the American classic foods prepared by Chef John DeLucie, formerly of Graydon Carter’s Waverly Inn. Seen and heard were Showtime’s hit series ‘Dexter’ stars, Michael C. Hall and wife Jennifer Carpenter and trained culinary expert Gail Simmons. Also, schmoozing, media heavy, Today Show regular as well as Lion investor, Dan Abrams. Before I was eventually seated, I was able to ask ace food critic and Top Chef TV star Gael Greene how the food was and she said, “It was good.” Well, there you go. Not only will you be among the rich and famous at The Lion, you will also have a good meal. Not to be missed is the bite sized corn bread served before you order, which is hot-out-of-the-oven and delish.
