With leisure travel down due to the wheels falling off the economy, Marriott Hotels International and hip boutique hotelier Ian Schrager have formed a lifestyle boutique brand partnership. The new opposites attract marital brand called ‘Edition’ with plans to have at least 100 boutique hotels including Costa Rica, Paris and Madrid, just opened with their first ‘Edition Waikiki’ in Hawaii. Besides Schrager, Marriott also looking to expand their U.S. business has formed a new brand called ‘Autograph,’ which takes existing hotels and brings them into the Marriott Collection and system. The first of what could be 14 Autograph hotels is the new highly anticipated ‘Cosmopolitan’ in Las Vegas opening this December 15th with 3000 rooms. Marriott’s President Arne Sorenson said this will of course open the job market in Vegas so whoever needs a job better go get your resume over there pronto. www.marriott.com
