The super friendly and super endearing, skilled singer, songwriter and performer Lucy Wainwright Roche took the stage at City Winery (cool spot for music) last week for her new CD listening party and wowed the packed house with her self- proclaimed “sad” melodic songs and accompanying funny stage shtick. The 30 year old talented daughter, who hails from American folk star Loudon Wainwright and Suzzy Roche of sister act The Roches, as well as award winning half-brother Rufus Wainwright and half-sister Martha, just released her first full length album ‘Lucy’ with collaborations from Amy Ray of Indigo Girls as well as her family. Lucy and I chatted prior to the show, and the Greenwich Village native told me she has been surrounded by musicians her entire life and coming from such a musically talented family has mostly served her well but it has been a ‘blessing and a curse.” As custom, Lucy took the stage with mom, dad and others, and once again showed us all the amazing power of the one of a kind folk singing family. Lucy’s legacy is a tough act to follow and she has some big footsteps to fill, but it seems the school teacher turned musician is on her way to making some big prints of her own.
