Summit Entertainment was scheduled to release Jodie Foster’s fascinating and interesting new film ‘The Beaver’ but much to Foster’s chagrin, was indefinitely shelved it due to it’s star, two-time Oscar winner Mel Gibson’s most recent racial slur outburst and outrageous, scary and threatening behavior towards his ex-girlfriend and mother of his new baby girl. In an interview with More magazine, Foster has broken her silence on the whole ordeal, saying of Gibson, “When you love a friend, you don’t abandon them when they are struggling. Of course, Mel is an undeniably gifted actor and director, and The Beaver is one of his most powerful and moving performances. But more importantly, he is and has been a true and loyal friend. I hope I can help him get through this dark moment.” The following is the official synopsis for the PG-13 film and much praised screenplay written by Kyle Killen. “Two-time Academy Award® winner Jodie Foster directs and co-stars with two-time Academy Award® winner Mel Gibson in THE BEAVER – an emotional story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. Plagued by his own demons, Walter Black was once a successful toy executive and family man who now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, Walter can’t seem to get himself back on track…until a beaver hand puppet enters his life.” Foster has been eager to release the shelved picture and finally they’re talking about a possible Spring release and just released the new trailer.
