Screen legend Shirley MacLaine continues to be a free spirit and force of nature as she enters her “third act” of life, as she says, and she’s still telling it like it is. In the most revealing book of her career, “I’m Over All That: And Other Confessions,” the 76-year-old actress discusses everything from sex to politics to aging in Hollywood. Warren Beatty’s sister talked to Parade.com about her new book and why she’s not holding back, whether discussing daily annoyances or the big questions in life.
Here are a few quotes from the Parade.com exclusive:
On the surge of tabloid fame.
“That is such an aberrant behavior pattern, but I think some of the stars encourage it to tell you the truth. I remember thinking when I was in my twenties that I knew some of my buddies in the business would dress up to go to the market. Well, what do you expect? I’m not interested in fame at all.”
She does have sympathy for paparazzi-hounded actors.
“I don’t know how they do it. I feel sorry for the Jennifer Anistons of the world because it’s soul-searing to have your life recorded and perused. It really is in human.”
On the drama of 2012.
“The 2012 end date represents a cosmic choice we must each make. It really might be the end of our karmic drama, so to speak. I think we’re in for some big changes, but I don’t think it’s the end of anything. It’s a chance for new beginnings.”
