What’s a girl to do? You’re smart enough to become a doctor but you secretly crave music. Well, if you’re Suzie Brown you do both and that’s exactly what the charismatic and talented doctor/singer-songwriter did while attending Harvard. She’s a practicing cardiologist who’s recently released album ”Heartstrings” produced by Barrie Maguire, bass player and vocalist for the iconic and Grammy winning group The Wallflowers is garnering attention. Said Suzie, “I grew up in a house where both of my parents were doctors and they loved what they did so I got a lot of doctor talk around the dinner table. At the same time, dad played guitar so we would sing Pete Seeger around the fireplace and I just loved to sing from the time I could talk.” And boy can she sing. Of course, shy at the time and busy with Med School, it was just a matter of time before Suzie Brown and her “acapella envy” burst on to the music scene. And she did big–time when at a friend’s wedding, the educated talent took to the stage and the crowd went silent, now in envy of her. A folk and bluesy country debut album would soon follow with the help of Maguire who’s worked with Amos Lee, Natalie Merchant and Rickie Lee Jones, and it’s great. In other words when the cool, exciting and soulful Suzie Brown plays The Bitter End and Rockwood Music Hall this summer make an appointment to see her, she’s awesome. www.suziebrownsongs.com
