“J.LO & MARC: What Really Went Wrong”

The breakup of the seemingly perfect Hollywood couple has left fans reeling. OK! reveals the truth behind the shocking split

They once seemed to be the ideal family: gorgeous, successful superstar Jennifer Lopez wed to sexy crooner Marc Anthony, plus their adorable 3-year-old twins, Max and Emme. But when the couple announced the end of their seven-year union on July 15, it became clear that the truth behind the A-list pairing didn’t match the public image.

“There have been a lot of tears,” an insider close to the couple tells OK! of the weeks leading up to the split. “Itwas a difficult decision for Jennifer, and she’s been putting on a brave face. She was struggling with whether she should stay and hope her marriage gets better or give up on it. It was really hard for her, but she didn’t want to be in a relationship where she wasn’t madly in love with her husband anymore.”

OTHER WOMEN?

“J.Lo and Marc used to have incredible passion between them, and that was the glue that held them together,” says another insider. “[But lately] they had been drifting apart to more of a friendship,” says the longtime friend of the couple.

Some say that’s because Marc had a wandering eye. “I think Marc wanted to be with other women,” reveals a source close to the situation. “He never came right out and said it, but Jennifer would occasionally bust him on flirting with the waitress or checking out girls at the bar, getting too chummy with his young female fans.” Adds another source, “J.Lo has confronted Marc on this before. He always denied it. She begged him to get into therapy with her, but he said no way. They’ve been having lots of arguments over it.” In fact, as early as 2008, J.Lo reportedly would send her assistant on tour with Marc to make sure he didn’t cheat on her.

To make matters worse, Marc has been spending time with his sexy ex-wife, former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres, with whom he has two sons. “Dayanara used to feel like she was hiding because Marc had to sneak around to see their kids,” says an insider, but in the past few months, that all changed. “Now, he sees the children on a regular basis. And he’s not only visiting the children; he’s also visiting Dayanara,” making J.Lo none too happy, says the source.

HER AMBITION GOT IN THE WAY

Marc was not happy that Jennifer was focusing so much on her career.

“Marc’s an old-fashioned guy, and that’s part of the reason Jennifer fell in love with him,” the source says. “But for her it was both a blessing and a curse. Jennifer is a career woman, and she got swept up in the romance of having this traditional-style marriage where the husband works and the wife stays home and takes care of the kids.”

For a while, it worked out. After giving birth to her kids in February 2008, Jennifer put her career on the back burner to be a wife and mother. “But a leopard can’t change her spots, and Jen is a career woman at her core,” says the source. “As soon as she got the call to do American Idol, she was off and running with work. At first Marc was supportive. But when she started working 15-hour days, it became an issue for him.”

Since this past summer, “Jennifer has been completely and utterly obsessed with reinventing her career,” says another insider.

TIME TO REBUILD

Despite all the reasons for acrimony, one insider insists that Jennifer and Marc have just as many reasons to remain close. “They are going to stay friends even after the divorce,” says the source.

The most important reason to get along is their kids. “Their first priority is Max and Emme,” says a source. “Even though they won’t be living under the same roof, Jennifer and Marc are determined to make sure their kids still feel like they have both a mom and a dad.” Plus, J.Lo and Marc will still be working together on their upcoming talent show, ¡Q’Viva! The Chosen, and on their clothing line for the department store Kohl’s, among other things.

“Jennifer is hanging in there,” says an insider close to the family. “She still believes Marc is her soul mate. She just fell out of love.”

Adds another source, “They did have a good run.”

WHO WILL GET THE KIDS?

Though fans know celeb duo Jennifer and Marc have split, the splintered couple’s toddlers are blissfully unaware.

“The kids are good,” says a source close to the family. “They don’t know what’s going on. Max and Emme are used to their parents not being around 24/7 anyway, so it’s no different.”

And both parents agree they want a swift and peaceful resolution with shared custody. “Jen and Marc want to make the transition as smooth and painless as possible, and Jen is feeling pretty optimistic that they will be able to do that,” says the source.

“Those kids will be very loved.”

WORKING TOGETHER WON’T BE EASY

The marriage is over, but their professional relationship goes on

In Hollywood, stars don’t let a divorce ruin a good business opportunity, like J.Lo and Marc’s pet project, Latin American talent competition ¡Q’Viva! The Chosen. An insider says the kaput couple will remain as producers when it tapes this fall. “They really are a great team and are going to continue to work together,” says a confidante. “Jennifer really values his opinion, and he always values hers. They have many projects together besides the show.” Those include the clothing and accessory lines for Kohl’s coming this fall, which will have a slightly different game plan; the exes will now promote the goods separately.

Now, after six years, maybe Angelina Jolie knows how Jennifer Aniston felt. The Oscar-winning actress is going nuclear over Brad Pitt’s flirtatious relationship — documented in photographs — with a young, brunette female assistant on the Malta set of his new zombie thriller, World War Z. And while unsubstantiated rumors still swirl over an impending Jolie-Pitt wedding, insiders say Angie’s jealous rages are beginning to push Brad away.

ANGIE’S INSECURE

“Brad resents that Angelina is trying to control him,” a source tells OK!. “He told Angelina outright, ‘I’ve always had women friends, I’m always going to have women friends. End of story.’”

But will it be the end of the World’s Most Glamorous Couple?

Incomprehensible as it may seem to the millions who envy Angelina as an icon of supremely confident — even arrogant — sensuality (oh, and she gets to go home to Brad), the world-saving serial mom has some serious insecurity issues. And it’s driving Brad to distraction.

“Of course, there’s a part of him — even though he would never admit it — that likes it,” the insider reveals. “Angelina is usually this cool, unaffected, kind of untouchable woman, and when she shows some jealousy, it lets him know she has a weak spot — and that, obviously, she’s crazy about him.

“But he’ll only tolerate so much,” adds the source. “When Angelina told Brad to stay away from [the assistant], and when she kept harping on it, he was like, ‘Enough is enough.’ At the end of the day, he’s a 47-year-old man and he only has so much patience for petty drama. He wants their relationship to be more evolved and sophisticated than that. Brad doesn’t want to be living inside a reality show.”

Reality stars like Snooki and The Situation may not have anything to worry about — yet. But according to another insider, tensions inside the couple’s various international dwellings are very close to the boiling point.

‘ONCE A CHEATER…’

In a bit of A-list celebrity irony, now it’s Angelina who is haunted by the adage “Once a cheater…. ” After all, she’s the one who allegedly broke up Brad’s marriage to Jen (while she and Brad were making Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2004).

“It’s rational for Angie to have her doubts, given how she and Brad got together,” the insider tells OK!. “The fact that Brad has been photographed with this hot brunette is making Angelina cling to him even more. But Brad is insisting she chill out. He’s laying down the law.”

BRAD PUTS HIS FOOT DOWN

To be sure, Brad has been known to maintain longtime friendships with his female colleagues — as well as some of his exes. Years before he ever met Jennifer or Angelina, for example, Brad platonically bonded with indie-film darling Catherine Keener (his co-star in the 1991 film Johnny Suede).

“They used to be very close, but Angie didn’t like that, so he and Catherine drifted apart,” the insider reveals.

“It’s the same thing with [onetime fiancée] Gwyneth Paltrow,” adds the insider. “Brad just let that friendship go because of Angelina’s disapproval. But he’s not going to do that anymore. It’s affecting the way Brad likes to be as a person, and that’s just not cool with him now.”

TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT?

So who is the young woman who’s rocking the relationship of Hollywood’s ultimate power couple?

“They’re always hanging out during filming and laughing,” a source tells OK!. Actually, that’s how she managed to get close to him. She seems like she has a great sense of humor.”

More important, Brad can let his guard down around her. “He’s sort of like a beautiful woman, always suspicious of people’s motives,” the source says. “So he wouldn’t let someone get close to him unless he trusted her.”

The question is, can Angelina trust Brad?

“This girl is a knockout and it looks like she and Brad are getting closer by the minute,” notes the source. “He always seems happier when she’s around. After all — if you’re spending 15 hours a day with someone, you are bound to get close to them. It’s getting stronger, for sure.”

SEPARATE LIVES—FOR NOW?

Maybe it’s just a coincidence — or maybe they’re just cooling off — but after spending some family time together in Malta while Brad filmed World War Z, the pair have split up for a while. Brad took off to Cancun, Mexico, to promote his long-delayed baseball flick, Moneyball (with Jonah Hill), and brought along sons Maddox and Pax, who were seen frolicking in the surf with their uncle Doug, Brad’s younger brother.

Now Brad is back at work on World War Z, his apocalyptic zombie thriller, this time in England — where, once again, he’s been seen on-set with his brunette BFF.

Meanwhile, Angelina took off for L.A. last week with Zahara and Shiloh, along with twins Knox and Vivienne. On July 17, Angie took the girls for some retail therapy, stopping off at Ozzie Dots, a vintage clothing and costume shop.

“Maci & Ryan: Reunited”

Maci Bookout has never been able to completely get over Bentley’s father, Ryan Edwards

Suddenly single Teen Mom star Maci Bookout has been getting closer to her ex Ryan Edwards, since she and Kyle King decided to take a break. “Maci and Ryan’s friendship has been great,” says an insider. “They’ve been doing a good job figuring out a system of how to raise Bentley together.”

Ryan’s parents, Larry and Jennifer Edwards, also praise the young parents for putting aside their differences to learn to be good parents to their 2-year- old son. “We’re extremely proud of the way Ryan and Maci are coming together to co-parent Bentley,” they tell OK!. “They’ve both grown so much.”

RYAN WAS HER FIRST LOVE

“A part of Maci will always love Ryan,” says a source. “He’s the father of her son. And whenever she looks at Bentley, he’s a part of Ryan, too.”

Even after Maci and Ryan broke up and she started a new relationship with Kyle — moving with him to Murfreesboro, Tenn. — Ryan remained on her mind. “Maci tried not to do anything that would hurt Ryan’s feelings or make things awkward between them,” say the insider. After all, Ryan was her first love.

Maci, 19, had just finished her sophomore year of high school and was a virgin when she first met Ryan, 23. Though the young parents argued a lot after Bentley was born, the spark between them has never died.

That’s not surprising because it’s common to idealize first love. “The first time you feel that rush, it can be intoxicating,” says relationship expert Andrea Syrtash, author of the upcoming book Cheat on Your Husband (With Your Husband). “It was the first time in your life when you experienced an intimate connection, shared your deepest feelings, thoughts, vulnerabilities and passions. That’s powerful.”

MACI IS TORN

Now Maci and Kyle have split, since he read her journal entries saying that she would always love and miss Ryan. Although Kyle offered a stable and drama-free home, he never could eclipse the passion she felt for Ryan. “Maci never had to try too hard with Kyle,” says a close friend. “She thought that meant she didn’t love Kyle as much as Ryan.” Now that she’s close with Ryan again, she’ll be forced to compare her feelings for both men.
