“Live From the ESPYs, It’s Seth Meyers” hosting the show for the second time in a row Wednesday, July 13. ‘Saturday Night Live’ head writer and ‘Weekend Update’ anchor Meyers will bring his shtick to the sports stage and be joined by an all- star lineup of top athletes and entertainers to celebrate the best sports stories of the year, the biggest upsets, and most outstanding performances.
Spoke to Seth a few days ago and he talked about bringing his SNL friends on again just like last year.” I’m so lucky to work with so many talented people and we sort of share the same short hand and best of all were really good at pulling things together in a week so as many as those guys I can use I’m gonna use.”
I asked Meyers, who also hosted the Washington Correspondents Dinner recently if he sees major hosting gigs as perhaps a future career move. “I gotta be honest. I’m hosting the ESPYs to try to get into the world of sports. I was hoping this would lead to being an athlete. Have I missed played it?
And how does the hysterical comedian who promises to bring some Weekend Update styled jokes to the plate plan to top last year’s show? “Performance Enhancing Drugs. And I do want to stress there are still a few days left before the ESPYs and a lot of things can happen, so any athletes hoping to have a big old scandal get it in under the wire”
Finally, I asked the New Hampshire born comic what his dream sports job would be in another time and place. “Baseball player for the Boston Red Sox.” Well, let’s hope A-Rod and Jeter aren’t listening. With Seth Meyers hosting, and a celeb line-up including SNL favorite Justin Timberlake, Jason Bateman, Cee Lo Green, Ryan Reynolds, Jonah Hill, Chris Evans, Jimmie Johnson, Amar’e Stoudemire, Danica Patrick, Serena Williams and many more, this years ESPYs should be a home run.
Wednesday, July 13, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPNHD from the Nokia Theatre at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles.
