Sonja Morgan may be living out her financial woes on the small screen for all to see, but before becoming a Real Housewife she seems to have been around the block. The single mother of a ten year-old daughter is all about living life to its fullest and spreading her personal motto: “to live each day as if you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

She recently opened up to online magazine The Beauty Bean (www.thebeautybean.com) in their regular weekly series On Real Beauty about all things real beauty, body image, what makes someone beautiful and the pressure to be perfect due to being a cast member of the RHONY.

Check out some of the interview:

What do you think makes someone beautiful?

Confidence makes everyone beautiful. You see a woman who doesn’t have cookie cutter features that are considered “model type” and yet you see how she carries herself and flair says “I am beautiful, catch me if you can!”

How does being a “Real Housewife” affect your perception of beauty?

Being a RHONY has forced me to step it up on my downtime. I hate to disappoint and feel the viewers want to see a cute outfit, shoe, ponytail, headband or some fashion/style statement from me when they see me…………………………We are always doing hair/makeup/wardrobe so when we have downtime it can lead to a downright “I don’t care!” mess.

How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture, particularly having such a public career?

………….. I age I realize more and more that confidence and personality are what makes a woman attractive. I just didn’t know I was an ugly duckling all this time!! Youth is always attractive but then you are left just being you. Which is wonderful too.

If you could share one tip with women and girls struggling to appreciate their own beauty, what would it be?

Find a mentor. (It can be someone in the media if you don’t have an aunt, teacher or hometown idol.) What do you admire about this person and their successful way of living a happy life. Adopt it. As you get older you will develop your own unique beauty style. But start the way everyone does, idolizing! It’s the sincerest form of flattery.
