The US Postal Service’s press office wants you to now that Director Bill Wilder one of only five people who have won Academy Awards as producer, director, and writer for the same film (The Apartment),will be immortalized on a stamp in 2012 as part of their “Great Film
Directors” commemorative Forever stamps set.
The Great Film Directors stamps are being issued as Forever stamps and Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.
Along will Bill, other extraordinary directors—Frank Capra, John Ford and John Huston, —created some of the most iconic scenes in American cinema. They gave audiences an unforgettable (and in some cases, deeply personal) vision of life.
– Capra became America’s most powerful director during the 1930s, winning 3 Oscars as Best Director. Among his leading films was It Happened One Night (1934), which became the first film to win all five top Oscars, including Best Picture.
– Ford’s four Academy Awards for Best Director (1935, 1940, 1941, 1952) is a record, and one of those films, How Green Was My Valley, also won Best Picture.
– During his 46-year career, Huston received 15 Oscar nominations, winning twice, and directed both his father, Walter Huston, and daughter, Anjelica Huston to Oscar wins in different films.
