Ever since Brett Ratner announced he would be producing the upcoming Academy Awards show along with long-time producer Don Mischer, names have been swirling around as to who he would and could get to host the gig which is in need of someone really funny and really sharp after last year’s Hathaway & Franco duo didn’t work. Buzz started circulating that actor/comedian/show biz star Eddie Murphy was being considered and wahla! It’s official. Eddie Murphy will be hosting the 84 Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26, 2012 on ABC. Makes sense, Murphy is starring in Ratner’s upcoming picture ‘Tower Heist’ with Ben Stiller which was filmed in NY. Said Murphy, “I am enormously honored to join the great list of past Academy Award hosts from Hope and Carson to Crystal, Martin and Goldberg, among others,” Eddie said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working with Brett and Don on creating a show that is enjoyable for both the fans at home and for the audience at the Kodak Theatre as we all come together to celebrate and recognize the great film contributions and collaborations from the past year.”
Yes, a comedic genius is needed to host the show. Should be great. With Ratner’s Hollywood connections, look for all the A-listers to come out.
