Rubirosa’s downtown family run Italian restaurant has all the bells and whistles and I’m still chiming from my dinner there. I finally made it to the talk of downtown after hearing raves from everyone and their mother and it exceeded my expectations.

We began with the Roasted Beet Salad which lasted somewhere around 2 minutes before being devoured followed by the authentic red sauce on Grandma’s Braised Beef Braciole served sizzling in a mini skillet with soaked garlic bread. And if we thought that was the tip of the iceberg, then came the 50 year old family recipe for thin crust Pizza which took us to a new high.

And that’s just the food.

The quaint, comfy and dimly lit Rubirosa, full of charm and old world atmosphere with a menu full of the owners take on Italian classics, plus house-made pastas, makes this Italian find stand alone. Cool staff, music in the background and a primo wine list seals the deal. Escape to Rubirosa. I’m hooked. You will be too.  Good luck getting a table.  235 Mulberry Street between Prince & Spring.  www.rubirosanyc.com
