Lisa Kudrow returns to NBC for a third season of “Who Do You Think You Are?”, which follows some major celebrities as they embark on personal journeys and self discovery to trace their family trees.
This year’s list is impressive: Martin Sheen, Marisa Tomei, Blair Underwood, Helen Hunt, Rebe McEntire, Jerome Bettis. Rita Wilson, Edie Falco, Rob Lowe, Rashida Jones, Jason Sudeikis and Paula Deen.
The first season saw celebs apprehensive about unleashing their personal history on camera. Are celebrities more or less apprehensive than season one?
Said Kudrow, “Much less, Much less. We’ve got a waiting list now. That’s fantastic. I think they know that we’re not trying to catch them at something or make them look bad, you know. That’s not what were interested in. Were really interested in just telling stories as experienced by their ancestors.. And hope they’re engaged because that always makes for a more interesting episode.”
Will there be any big reveals?
“Blair Underwood has a huge reveal. I think Rebe McEntire does too. I mean they all do. And Marisa Tomei, you know she’s looking for her great grandfather. The story was that he was killed by a jealous lover and that he was like, a philanderer, so that’s just how they always saw him. And she goes and investigates and finds out that it’s a different story and you know people didn’t have to be even a little ashamed.”
And what does Kudrow watch in her spare time?
“‘Parenthood’ and ‘30 Rock’.”
All NBC. Of course. The very smart Friends star knows where her bread is buttered.
‘Who Do You Think You Are’ premieres Friday, February 3 from 8-9p ET with Martin Sheen’s story. Marisa Tomei is next week, February 10.
