As the new host of NBC’s dating competition Love in the Wild, Jenny McCarthy uses her wit and wiles to help the contestants wind their way through extreme competitions and the inevitable catfights.
On the romance front, the Chicago-bred comedian and Autism activist recently stepped out with Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher dining at Beverly Hills hot spot Madeo’s.
Jenny talked to parade.com about why she’s “giddy,” her thoughts on marriage, how she’s ringing in 40 and more…
On whether she’s prepared to be Chicago’s new First Couple with Bears star Urlacher…
“That’s funny! I haven’t made too many comments other than the fact that I’m taking baby steps. We’ll see. But I’m giddy right now.”
What sweeps her off her feet?
“Someone who is generally a nice guy through and through. You can really tell from talking to the person’s friends. I always have two secrets I use: one is watching them with the service industry people and the other is going on an overnight, weekend trip. It’s kind of like our adventures on our show. You break the mold of your fake self and over seventy-two hours you have to act natural somewhere. Those are my two litmus test things. Being from Chicago and trying to date in L.A., it was hard. I’m just happy to see where I’ll go from here.”
The craziest thing she’s done for love….
“Craziest thing I’ve done for love is getting married. I think it’s crazy. I think it’s crazy, crazy, crazy. I’m never going to say I wouldn’t do it again but I have to make sure it’s love and not settling for the ‘I have to do this by a certain age,’ which is kind of what I did.”
Would she collaborate with cousin Melissa McCarthy in the future?
“We did something a long time ago. When she first came out here, I put her on my sketch show as a PA [production assistant] to learn how to do the business because she wasn’t aware of Hollywood. The last couple of episodes I put her on a sketch and I went, ‘Oh my god! This girl is GOOD!’ Then she really did a good job of building her brand up and I knew it was only a matter of time before she broke. Now she’s the most sought-after person right now. I couldn’t be more proud.”
