Matthew McConaughey, Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer all dancing and gyrating exotically, stripping down to their skivvies and showing us six packs on the big screen? Yes, of course I’m in. And I’m in big. Just like Oscar winning director Steven Soderbergh said, the film is “just F for fun.”
Plus it’s a nice twist from the usual world of stripping women that we know much more than we care to. We rarely hear much about the quiet world of professional male exotic dancing.
Soderbergh, who brought us ‘Erin Brockovich’, ‘Traffic’ and ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, has now decided to get down and dirty with ‘Magic Mike’ which although on the surface seems to just deal with the hottest guys in Hollywood putting on a huge bachelorette party, still gets serious with the underlying story of the world of stripping, drugs and eventually making your way out of the good paying stripper occupation.
Up-and-coming matinee idol Channing Tatum who was a real life stripper at 18 years old, obviously took the role which is basically based on him, and because of his inside knowledge, is one of the executive producers.
Matthew McConaughey always stands out, as does forceful and foxy Olivia Munn, and semi-newcomer Cody Horn, daughter of former Warner Bros. studio head Alan Horn, as Tatum’s love interest, is make her way up the showbiz ladder.
Ladies will love it and men, you just may too.
Opens Friday, June 29 at a theatre near you.
