“It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.” John Steinbeck, Positano 1953
One day early in our travels, we arrived in an extraordinary village on the coast. The salty air, radiant colored buildings, and breathtaking mountains were intoxicating. As we sailed further away from the shore, a freshly caught tuna hit the boat’s deck. Naively, we thought the fish was for dinner, but immediately our captain began to prepare lunch. Deftly, he skinned, boned, and sliced the fish, unveiling the most perfectly dark red Mediterranean tuna. The fish was then tossed with olive oil, salt, and the juice of a fresh lemon. He served it to us right there on the boat with torn bread and cold white table wine from his family’s vineyard in the hills. I don’t know if it was the freshness of the fish, the chill of the wine, or the beauty of the experience, but I have dreamed of that day everyday since.WELCOME TO ISOLA.
