TV host nice guy Nick Cannon hosted the Seventh Annual Children’s Rights Benefit which honored Kasseem ‘Swizz Beatz’ Dean with the Children’s Rights’ Champion Award Wednesday night at NY’s elegant Plaza Hotel.
Nick presented Swizz Beatz with his award and in his acceptance speech, Swizz spoke about how important it is to protect the youth: “When you’re a family man you understand how important it is for every child to have an equal chance.
The benefit raised more than half a million dollars and included a Celebrity After-Party sponsored by Reebok Classic which had the modern day Renaissance man and Grammy Award-winning producer (and hubby to Alicia Keys) taking over the DJ duties to an inspired and excited dancing crowd.
Said Swizz, “We are pro kids. Dance for the children and celebrate love.”
The party was so off the hook that it was prolonged an hour and a half. (And I was in music ecstasy when they played the R&B classic ‘Mama Used to Say’ by British artist Junior.)
Children’s Rights Board Member Darryl “DMC” McDaniels – hip hop icon from the groundbreaking group Run DMC – served as emcee and said, “It’s fun being one of the greatest rappers of all time but I’m here because I am an adopted foster child.”
Mariah Carey’s hubby revealed his connection to foster care, ” “My grandmother raised me because my parents were teenagers. She went on to raise over 100 foster kids and help with emergency care. I know why we’re here tonight first hand.”
