The Lower East Side of Manhattan will never be the same. Welcome new Modern-Asian restaurant The General in bright red neon you can’t miss on the corner of Bowery and Spring.
Word is out, and all the pretty people and people wanting to be pretty are already flocking to EMM Group’s hip and handsome new Asian mecca with a welcoming glass-door paneled facade opening directly into the front café, which is just the beginning area leading to the packed bar/lounge with high-top cozy tables all preceding the bustling main dining room.
I was there last week and saw Top Chef foodie Padma Lakshmi smiling as she left the new hot spot, as well as NBC ‘Today in NY’ gal Lauren Scala looking fab and calling it a night before 10p-ish to ready herself for her early morning TV gig she does so well.
I only stopped in for drinks, but I’ll be returning for dinner over the next few weeks to sample Top Chef Season 3 Winner executive chef Hung Huynh’s shareable menu standouts such as POW Roll, Philly Peppersteak Sticky Buns and a non-traditional rendition of the large format Beef & Broccoli.
Judging from the people stuffing their faces at the bar while waiting to be seated, along with the Asian aroma, I’m coming with a forceful appetite.
And for those looking to keep the night going, try and get into its two connected nightclubs Finale and Bow.
And they will pull rank so you better be dressed to kill.
Sounds great!
