Now in it’s third year, the South-South Awards held at the Walfdorf Astoria honored former South Africa President Nelson Mandela and his wife Madame Graca Machel for their Humanitarian Achievements. Daughter Zindzi Mandela and daughter-in-law Josina Machel accepted on their behalf.
Hosted by Miss USA Erin Brady, the awards recognized Performer and Composer David Paich of Toto with a Lifetime Achievement Award while the “Princess of Africa” Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Grammy nominated duo Les Nubians performed during the ceremony.
Other guests included football and basketball players Plaxico Burress and Morris Peterson, Sibylle Eschapasse, President of Costa Rica Laura Chinchilla Miranda, Elaine Sargeant, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Baharain Khalifa bin Saliman Al-Khalifa, Dr. Christine Borelli, Cassandra Seidenfeld, Catherine Malandrino, Christopher Pape, Nicole Noonan, Unik Ernest, Sharon Bush, James Fairchild, Fahad Ghaffar, Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin and Hedy Klineman.
