Looking stunning as ever, Angela Bassett poses for the cover of December 16th issue of JET magazine as she discusses being a mom, a wife and her new projects.
Currently she is starring in FX’s hit drama, American Horror Story: Coven, and fans can expect to see her on the big screen alongside Forrest Whitaker in the anticipated film Black Nativity, which hits theaters November 27th.
While many are familiar with Bassett’s acting career, she gives readers of JET magazine a taste of her personal life as she discusses her struggles with infertility, disagreements with her husband, and parenting young twins while she and her husband both have thriving acting careers.
Bassett on her children facing racism amongst peers:
“The kids were playing one day, and a blonde, blue-eyed girl said that she didn’t want my daughter to be a part of the family. My son stood up to her and asked the child how would she feel if she was treated like that, and the girl said ‘bad.’ They were only 4 years old at the time.”
Bassett on infertility:
“After trying and trying, I unfortunately couldn’t have my babies. It was my reality. I heard about the surrogate option and it worked out beautifully.”
Bassett on her public persona:
“I’m pretty sure that people think that I’m really serious. I know that they think I’m stern as well. People are always surprised that I’m actually fun, and not all stuck-up and mean!”
