Audi celebrated the launch of the brand new Audi A3 on Thursday in New York City and Los Angeles with a private event featuring special performances by M.I.A and Janelle Monae.
In New York, M.I.A ended her set with hit song “Bad Girls” live, which featured a verse performed by a hologram of Janelle Monáe on stage. In Los Angeles, Janelle Monáe concluded her performance with her popular song “Q.U.E.E.N” live, which featured a verse performed by a hologram of M.I.A.
During her performance, M.I.A. laughed and mentioned her pants were “hologram friendly,” referring to the gold-plated leggings she wore during her performance. She had a great time on stage and even changed the lyrics to her hit song, “Bamboo Banga,” and sang “I’m knockin’ on the door of your Audi, Audi, Yeah, I’m knockin’ on the doors of your Audi, Audi.”
Clad in her signature black and white ensemble, Janelle Monáe gave an energetic performance and had the crowd dancing throughout her set. She also mentioned her love of Brazilian music and her excitement to have a song on the upcoming soundtrack for “Rio 2” – she even joked that it was already her favorite song of the summer.
