PRIVATE VIOLENCE SCREENING at the UN - UN WOMEN FOR PEACELast Thursday, UN Women for Peace Association hosted a screening of the new HBO documentary, Private Violence, a film which provides a lens into the world of domestic abuse, a world that is largely invisible.

Sponsored by the UN Alliance of Civilizations, guests gathered at the United Nations and were treated to a pre-screening program, which included welcoming remarks from Mrs. Ban Soon-taek, wife of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and patron of UNWFPA, Muna Rihani Al-Nasser, chair of UNWFPA, Elizabeth Flores Flake, the Ambassador of Honduras to the UN, Cynthia Hill, director and producer of Private Violence, and Kit Gruelle, a producer and one of the subjects of the documentary, as well as an advocate for ending violence against women.

Immensely powerful, Private Violence highlights the personal experiences of Deanna Walter and Kit Gruelle, and challenges many entrenched and misleading assumptions about domestic abuse.

The film is being screened at various locations across the United States.
