How sweet it is for Jennifer Aniston. And it may just get sweeter.
The actress, who has spent most of her amazing career thus far in comedy, now has what looks to be a winning drama on her hands.
The movie is Cake, a drama written by Patrick Tobin, and directed by Daniel Barnz, which stars Jennifer as an acerbic woman who becomes fascinated by the suicide of a woman in her chronic-pain support group. As she uncovers the details of the suicide, she grapples with her own personal demons.
At its Toronto Film Festival premiere it was critically acclaimed and the cast got a standing ovation. Some have said Aniston’s performance may be “Oscar worthy.” So far she has snagged a SAG Award and Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.
Back in 2002, Aniston starred in ‘The Good Girl’, a black comedy opposite Jake Gyllenhaal (who also has received major applause and various nominations for his recent performance in “Nightcrawler’) which also garnered some critical praise, leading to a few secondary level nominations, but nothing big-time sufficed.
This time may be different. Jennifer Aniston wants it badly and they say she’s fantastic in CAKE. Opens wide January 25th. I’m going to see it. Stay tuned.
Co-stars include Adriana Barraza, Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy, Anna Kendrick, Chris Messina and Sam Worthington.
