The Portrait Project, a series of six new works for one dancer and one musician sharing the stage takes place February 18, 8:00PM and February 19, 8:00PM at GK Artscenter at 29 Jay Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn.
Each work was created by a different guest choreographer in collaboration with a composer, and the six dancers and six musicians performing the works comprise Periapsis Music and Dance’s resident ensemble.
The evening will conclude with a moderated, post-performance discussion with the artists.
Tickets are $30 general admission, $20 for students and artists, available at http://periapsismusicanddance. org/calendar/.
Guest choreographers are Joshua Beamish, Seán Curran, Miro Magloire, Helen Simoneau, Katarzyna Skarpetowska, and Manuel Vignoulle.
Music for three of the pieces was written by Artistic Director Jonathan Howard Katz, and guest composers Richard Carrick (a current Guggenheim Fellow), Shawn Jaeger, and Mary Kouyoumdjian scored the other three.
The program will also include an excerpt of a new work by resident choreographers Erin Dillon and Hannah Weber (with original music by Katz).
