Bronx Community College, the only community college in the United States with buildings that earned a National Historic Landmark designation, hosts an Architecture & Arts Festival to introduce the public to the beauty and history of its campus and to showcase local artists from across New York City — including talented members of BCC’s student body.
When: Sunday, October 16, 2016, from noon to 4:00 p.m.
Where: Bronx Community College, 2155 University Avenue, Bronx, New York
During this special event, BCC will be an “Open House New York” location as part of the City’s five-borough celebration of architecture and design. In conjunction with Open House New York, the Architecture & Arts Festival will feature:
- Tours of the BCC campus, including the Stanford White-designed Gould Memorial Library and the Hall of Fame for Great Americans and buildings by Marcel Breuer
- Performances by local arts organizations of dance, music and performance art
- Paintings by renowned Bronx artist Daniel Hauben. Hauben’s oils hanging in the BCC library are one of the largest publically commissioned artworks in Bronx history. There will also be visual art from Daniel Del Valle, Dennesa Usher, Jennifer Tomaiolo, Dennis Redmoon Darkeem and Andre Trenier
- BCC exhibits will include the student-built car from the Automotive Technology program, screenings of student films from the BCC film festival and a performance by the BCC Student Dance Workshop
- Displays from the National Museums of the American Indian, the Historic Districts Council and the Bronx County Historical Society
- A “Taste of the Bronx” — samplings of the food and drink that are transforming the borough into a foodie’s paradise
This event is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending are asked to register at www.bcc.cuny.edu/ArchFest. For further information, contact danielle.jean-marie@bcc.cuny.
