Filmmaking duo Fisher Stevens and partner Alexis Bloom were on the red carpet at this year’s Creative Emmys for their nominated HBO Documentary Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.
The two directed and produced the doc nominated for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking, which showcased an intimate portrait of the two Hollywood icons, and their intense mother/daughter relationship through the years.
A few weeks before the film’s premiere broadcast, both Fisher and Reynolds died. On December 23, Fisher went into cardiac arrest and succumbed four days later, while Reynolds had a severe stroke from which she died on the following day, December 28
The award in their category went to LA 92 (National Geographic), a look at the Rodney King trial twenty-five years later, which sparked several days of protests, violence and looting in Los Angeles, with rarely seen footage.
