As the greatest film franchise in the galaxy rolls out its latest episode, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (in U.S. theaters December 15), the planet’s top models — Kendall Jenner, Bella and Gigi Hadid, Taylor Hill, and Kaia Gerber— explore the original trilogy’s many worlds.
If you’ve picked up a piece of Star Wars merchandise in the past ten years, you can thank Brian Rood: since the release of Episode 3, the illustrator has been responsible for defining and guiding the visual style fans of the franchise know and love.
On newsstands now, Harper’s BAZAAR enlisted Rood’s help in today’s supermodel ‘star wars’ by asking him to cast the industry’s reigning catwalk queens in classic scenes from the franchise. (Kaia Gerber pulling a Princess Leia amid Hoth’s snowy tundra, or the Hadids emerging from the Millennium Falcon.)
Working from his studio in Michigan, Rood walked us through his artistic process and told us what it was like to draw Taylor Hill storm(troop)ing the gangway of the Death Star.
