A powerful screening of the upcoming documentary, EMANUEL, was held at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.

Survivors and family members of the victims of the EMANUEL AME Church shooting in Charleston, SC, were all in attendance, as well as co-producer Mariska Hargitay and film producers John ShepherdMike Wildt and Dimas Salaberrios.

From Executive Producers Stephen Curry and Viola Davis, and Director Brian Ivie (The Drop Box), National headlines blazed the story: “Churchgoers Gunned Down During Prayer Service in Charleston, South Carolina.” After a 21-year-old white supremacist opened fire in the church, nine African Americans lay dead—leaving their families and the nation to grapple with this senseless act of terror.

After the screening, Mariska Hargitay introduced award-winning journalist Roland Martin who moderated a panel discussion and Q&A with survivor Polly Sheppard, and family members of the victims Nadine CollierChris Singleton and Reverend Anthony Batiste Thompson

Producer Dimas Salaberrios then closed the event with a group prayer before attendees enjoyed a reception with light hors d’oeuvres.

EMANUEL opens in movie theaters nationwide through Fathom Events on June 17th and 19th only—the respective anniversaries of the shooting, and Dylann Roof’s first court appearance when he was forgiven one-by-one by his victims.
