The David Lynch Foundation (DLF) celebrated its 15th anniversary with a summer party at the Bridgehampton Tennis & Surf Club. The event launched the Foundation’s national initiative to bring the stress-reducing Transcendental Meditation technique to the nearly one million veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Emcee Katie Couric was joined on-stage by comedian Mike Birbiglia, “Billions” TV showrunner Brian Koppelman, and DLF CEO Bob Roth.
The evening’s hosts were Nancy Chemtob, partner with Chemtob, Moss, Forman & Beyda, LLP, and Mark Axelowitz, Managing Director in Private Wealth Management at UBS. They were joined by Steve Abrams, CEO and majority owner of Magnolia Bakery; Shruti Joshi, CEO of the consumer technology start-up Compell’d Inc.; Joanna Plafsky, film producer; and Orin Snyder, Partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
Attendees included: Jeffrey Abramson, Cindy Feinberg, Zeil and Helene Feldman, Heather Hartnett, Jack and Vicki Rovner, Heidi Schecter, Jack and Shirley Silver, Alan Patricof, and Cody Vichinsky, among others.
“More than 21 veterans take their own lives every day because of combat-related PTSD,” said Mr. Axelowitz, who also serves as the DLF board vice chair. “Research has shown that Transcendental Meditation is a highly effective technique to help any veterans heal their trauma from within. Tonight, we are launching a national initiative, in partnership with VA hospitals throughout the country, to bring Transcendental Meditation to every veteran in America who wants to learn to meditate.”
