South African success Elan Lea is looking to take his singing and songwriting to the States. His debut U.S. project “Conversations Over Time” beginning with the single “Take The World” looks to be telling.
Talking on the phone from South Africa, me in America, he could have been in my kitchen the line was so clear.
The son of a musician and signed to a major record deal at a young 17 years old, growing up, Elan Lea paid attention to the big picture.
“My music comes from a place of family. My dad was/is a musician. When I was younger I just kind of got my hands on any and all music. School productions and choirs, my background is kind of a mix of creativity and business. My mom is a real tough business person and with my dad being a musician, I kind of saw those worlds coming together, business and music.”
I had just gotten my license..I was 18 and I remember driving to school and just like in the movies I heard my song playing on the radio. It was kind of surreal. I wish I would have appreciated it more back then.”
Humble and super talented, his music makes you feel good and according to Elan is, “raw, exciting and fun.”
As you can see he’s got the looks too. Check out his video below, that just may put him in triple threat territory.
His 2009 Universal Records album “My Only Excuse”, which had big shot writers on it like Diane Warren and Guy Chambers, made it to the top 20 on the U.K. Commercial Club Pop Chart.
And there’s more, he’s even worked with the late great, one and only Bee Gees Robin Gibb.
“It was a blessing, an honor and a privilege to have…. I’m not sure if the world knows but that was one of the greatest, he was a great person, a great songwriter, a really great mentor. And the way the opportunity came about was just people who knew people on my team were the same on his team when I was still releasing in the U.K. We got to a point where they connected us to see if we could work together or whether we got on. Being honest, he said “hey man, you got it, lets do something together.”
They would go on to co-write a song together with Robin’s son RJ aptly named ‘Get Real’ but it would never be heard. The day they were finishing up the song, Robin got rushed to the hospital.
Said Elan, “I got to know Robin personally, stayed in his house for awhile with his family. Maybe one day if I get big enough or his brother Gary takes some notice, maybe he’ll jump in and come finish it with us.”
That will be a good day.
