Two of today’s hottest music stars Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato came to Stephen Colbert’s TV show to promote their new tour FUTURE NOW beginning June 29 in Atlanta.
Lovato, who just ended her many year relationship with boyfriend Wilmer Valderamma, wowed the fans on Good Morning America Friday with hit songs Cool for the Summer and Stone Cold.
Actor Jeff Goldblum sat down with contributing editor Dotson Rader for a revealing interview about his life, career, his third marriage, new fatherhood and his new movie, Independence Day: Resurgence, which opens June 24.
Here’s some:
On becoming an actor: “Around 10, I went to summer camp. There was a drama program. They gave me the lead in this show called Belle of the Balkans, a Gilbert and Sullivan takeoff. I rehearsed with my mom. I was totally exhilarated and tingly. By the time I was in high school, I was obsessed. Every day I’d write on the steamy shower door, ‘God, please let me be an actor.’”
On playing an “action” role in Independence Day: Resurgence: “I’m a humble student of acting and a grateful actor who shows up each time trying not to take it for granted. I like that I get to play a variety of parts, but I’ve liked the few parts where I’m ‘heroic’ and so-called ‘action-y.”
On his wife, Emilie Livingston: “She’s Canadian, her mom is French. She was in the Olympics [in rhythmic gymnastics]. At 2, she followed her sister in to ballet classes, then started to do gymnastics [and] this Russian coach sussed her out. She’s expanded her technique aerial things, like Cirque du Soleil. She [performed] on the Oscars last year.”
On fatherhood and his new son, Charlie Ocean, born last summer: “This morning I made his bottle and changed his diaper. Then I sat there and watched him play. He just started to say, ‘Dada.’ It’s thrilling. He goes to bed at the same time every night and takes his naps at the same time. He gets bathed every night at 6:20, the three of us together in the tub. It’s just delightful.”
A little Hart and a big Johnson as told by the suits behind Warner Bros. newest picture Central Intelligence, was the message sent and received loud and clear.
Hart plays a former high school golden boy turned accountant, who reunites with a fellow classmate played by Johnson, who left school after a particularly embarrassing incident and became a member of the CIA.
The combination of Kevin and Dwayne’s comedy chops and action skills of course makes me want to run to see it and laugh and be thoroughly entertained for two hours. And that’s why my movie critics really liked it.
Besides the funny and the smart, the two huge talents hope the movie conveys a bigger message.
Said Hart: “I think the overall message we’re giving in this film is regardless of where you are or who you are, be happy with that person and that position. At the end of the day, there’s happiness in everything and that’s what these two characters have to realize and find within themselves.”

This past weekend, three-time Daytime Emmy Award winner, author, and TV and radio host Steve Harvey kicked off the 8th annual Steve Harvey Mentoring Program for Young Men with notable mentors and male role models including Choice Hotels CEO Steve Joyce, former NBA shooting guard Duane Ferrell and other community leaders.
A total of 220 fatherless male youths from across the country, aged 13-18, were invited to attend a mentoring camp experience at Camp Grace in Roberta, GA hosted by the Steve Harvey Mentoring Program for Young Men. During the program, the teens live among male role models and are exposed to educational and inspirational activities aimed to introduce them to adulthood and teambuilding, instill self-respect and respect for others, teach helpful life skills and introduce problem-solving techniques to conquer obstacles and empower their futures.
Choice Hotels has supported the annual Steve Harvey Mentoring Program for Young Men since its inaugural year and is now the program’s largest donor and partner. In addition to providing complimentary hotel stays for the mothers of participants, Harvey Foundation staff and volunteers, Choice Hotels has contributed more than a quarter-million dollars to the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation in less than two years.

Fabulous Hollywood ladies including Roseanne Arquette, Claire Danes, Kate Beckinsale, Cate Blanchett, Maria Bello and Lake Bell were just some who came out to support this year’s Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards honoring female producers, an agent and director alongside actresses Taraji P. Henson and Natalie Dormer.
The Crystal + Lucy Awards is a fundraiser to support Women in Film’s programs, including a new three-year campaign to support additional gender studies and provide unconscious-bias training to Hollywood workers.
At the Beverly Hilton dinner ceremony gender parity and sisterhood in Hollywood among women working in the industry was the topic of discussion.
Said Henson who received The Crystal Award for Excellence in Film; “We’re all we got, ladies. We’re fighting for what we deserve.”
The amazing women behind the scenes honored were Denise Di Novi, Lianne Halfon, Lynda Obst, Jane Rosenthal, Paula Wagner, Lucy Fisher, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Paula Weinstein, and The Max Mara Face of the Future Award went to actress Natalie dormer.
ESSENCE will honor Tina Knowles-Lawson with the first ever Inspiring Leadership Award at this year’s ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans on Sunday, July 3.
ESSENCE will honor Beyoncé and Solange’ mom for being a pioneer in the entertainment industry as well as for her leadership, mentorship and inspiration to many women.
She has had a long career and philanthropic efforts of her own since day one.
Knowles-Lawson, 62, was the creative visionary behind Destiny’s Child’s style. Her philanthropic efforts have helped organizations such as The Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, The Survivor Foundation and Miss A Meal and Goodwill to name a few.
She is committed to social justice, women’s empowerment and community relations. Following the award presentation, ESSENCE Editor-at-Large, Mikki Taylor, will host a one-on-one interview with the woman known for her grace and strength.
In addition to this special presentation, ESSENCE will feature its annual all-star gospel tribute hosted by TV personality and author Cheryl Wills, saluting the legendary singing group The Clark Sisters, and showcase uplifting performances by fellow artists Yolanda Adams, Kierra Sheard, Faith Evans, Ledisi, Keke Wyatt and many others.
Los Angeles born sisters Erin and Sara Foster will go for a second season of Barely Famous on VH1 where they poke fun at being celebrity in Hollywood.
The scripted show will follow the two funny daughters of mega-producer David Foster, as they play exaggerated satirical versions of themselves, and get into various predicaments.
Famous friends came out to the premiere party including Jennifer Garner, Molly Simms, Jennifer Meyer, Ali Larter, Rachel Zoe, Milla Jovovich, and Brody Jenner and fiancé Kaitlynn Carter.
I guess The Apollo Theater didn’t get the memo that I’m a huge O’Jays fan and that’s why my invite to this year’s Spring Gala never arrived. 😉
But okay, I’m sure all the other guests enjoyed their many infectious hits including Love Train, I Love Music and Backstabbers which I’m sure they performed at this years benefit.
Hosted by LL COOL J, along with The O’Jays, the evening celebrated the Theater’s legacy with a spectacular one-night-only concert with Leon Bridges, Andra Day, and Les Twins, and a star-studded party with dinner and dancing.
Proceeds from the event support the Theater’s performing arts, education and community initiatives.
Earlier in the day, the Theater inducted Prince Into the Apollo Walk of Fame For a Special Gala Walk of Fame Ceremony.

Said the former reality vixen: “We went to dinner at one of our favorite spots in Chicago called Blackbird. We had a four-course meal and a bottle of wine. I was a happy girl!”
“While in Tuscany, we went for a hot air balloon ride early one morning. And it was the most beautiful and exhilarating experience I’ve ever had.”
