American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, hosted a special gala celebration last week at the Brazilian Court Hotel that paid tribute to recent graduates of its lifesaving Pups4Patriots program which puts healing leashes in the hands of veterans suffering the invisible wounds of war – post traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury.

“As we continue to face uncertain times, this celebration serves as a rallying point to bring us together to provide veterans in need with the healing power of our four-legged friends,” said Robin Ganzert, CEO and president of American Humane. “Service dogs are an invaluable asset to veterans with trauma, and our annual Pups4Patriots gala literally helps us save lives on both ends of the leash.”

This year’s celebration featured quarantine bubble seating as well as virtual seating so all guests were comfortable and able to fully enjoy a night under the stars listening to live music courtesy of Alex Donner Entertainment. Notable guests spotted at the event included Lois Pope, American Humane’s First Lady of Compassion; Jean and Martin Shafiroff; Herb and Sharon Jablin; Sharon Bush and Bob Murry; and Judith Miller, among many others.

Through the generous support of its donors, including the DAV Gold Coast Chapter 133 which was also in attendance, American Humane is able to provide highly trained service dogs to veterans in need.

Tom Cruise’s 320-Acre Colorado Ranch For Sale

Tom Cruise has relisted his 320-acre estate in Telluride, Colorado for $39.5 million, a reduction from the $59 million he was asking in 2014.

The 10,000-square-foot, stone-and-cedar home holds a lot of history for Cruise. It is where he enjoyed time with his children and much of his marriage to Katie Holmes, and it was the location of Tom’s last major interview with Oprah, a follow-up to Tom’s exuberant couch-jumping episode with Oprah in 2005. Oprah was so taken with the Tom Cruise ranch and its views that she later bought her own home nearby.

The first impression of Tom’s home driving up the mile-long driveway from the gated entrance is the staggering view of the mountains and valleys. Designed to take full advantage of the views, the 11,512-square-foot living space includes the 10,000-square-foot, four-bedroom main house and a three-bedroom guest house. Blending in with its wooded surroundings, the structures are clad in rustic-bleached-cedar timbers and native stone with beamed ceilings and large expanses of glass. In addition to a large eat-in kitchen, living room and dining room that will seat a crowd, there is a gym, recreation room and library. Detached and in its own aspen grove is the charming guest house. Combined, there are a total of seven bedrooms and nine full baths.

The grounds are equally impressive in all seasons. Outside is a sports court for tennis, basketball or ice hockey and a private trail system with access to and views of the 14,000-foot-high mountains in the distance with a private gate into the Uncompahgre National Forest. There are hiking and riding trails and both dirt bike and snowmobile tracks which thread throughout the 320 acres.

Telluride has long been a destination for celebrities who like to ski or just get away and chill from their high-octane professional lives and now is even more popular for second-home buyers during the pandemic. Other stars who also find Telluride to be a great getaway include Robert Redford, Jerry Seinfeld, and designer-to-the-stars Ralph Lauren.

As with most famous celebrities, Tom has claimed his share of the gossip pages whether it be over his marriages, children or film-role formulas. However, as the reviewers of his award-winning films agree, it doesn’t matter what he says or does or the latest gossip, Cruise is one of the few actors who can be cast in any film with any script and will likely take the film to the top of the box office ratings. Working around the constraints of Covid-19, Tom’s upcoming films are Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7. He is well known for taking risks for his films, even doing his own risky stunts. Rumor has it that he will be going up in Elon Musk’s Space-X rocket to the space station to film Mission: Impossible 7.

The listing agent for the Tom Cruise Telluride ranch is Dan Dockray of LIV Sotheby’s International Realty, Telluride, Colorado.

Iconic Partygoers Audrey Hepburn, Diana Ross, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Polly Mellen and Christy Turlington Cover Town & Country’s April 2021 Issue

diana ross, town & country april 2021 issue, new york gossip gal

“Remember fun? That’s the burning question we ask on our cover, and we keep stoking the flame throughout the issue. Because the best parties, the ones we can’t wait to get back to when it’s safe to do so, are the ones where you go not knowing who will be there, and then the guest list exceeds your wildest dreams.”  – Stellene Volandes, EIC, Town & Country

Humans have indulged and celebrated since the beginning of time and those not on the guest list have looked on with as much enthusiasm as the partygoers themselves. Perhaps now more than ever, we are experiencing a collective famine of fun – from the festivities to enjoy and the ensuing gossip to read about the next day. T&C’s April issue is dedicated to history’s most spectacular fêtes, as well as those we’re hoping to celebrate as soon as we’re able. The longing for parties to come, once it is safe to gather in groups again, inspired T&C’s cover story “Remember Fun?”, a look back at legendary parties and hosts, from Caligula’s deviant gatherings in Ancient Rome to today’s TikTok mansion residencies.

Throughout the pages you’ll find tributes of all sorts: flip through photos and stories of the greatest party houses of all time—like Halston’s townhouse on East 63rd Street or Sue Mengers’s place in L.A.—by David Netto; peruse an oral history of great times with the best parties in recent-ish memory (with quotes from Andy Warhol, Bevy Smith, Maureen Dowd and other party-going greats); experience the reopening of history’s original animal house, Casa Caligula (which was recently discovered after almost a decade long excavation), and see where the TikTok-cracy holds court today. In addition, going with the great tradition of Town & Country’s history of covers by artists, the brand commissioned an original illustration from Ruben Toledo, one of the great working masters of the form, for one of the four covers for this issue.

QUOTES

Andy Warhol, From The Andy Warhol Diaries: “Wednesday, April 13, 1977: I was going up for cocktails and then dinner for Jean Stein at her sister Susan Shiva’s apartment in the Dakota. I thought it couldn’t be anything great, so I was 45 minutes late. The first person I saw when I walked in the door was Jackie O., looking beautiful. Then Norman Mailer…

Sue Mengers was there, and she came over to me and said her knees were buckling, that she’d never been to a party like this. Babe Paley and her chairman-of-CBS husband went by, and later when I saw Sue and Paley sitting together I remembered that Sue had told me in California that the only job she ever wanted was Paley’s…

Renata Adler, who writes for the New Yorker, was there with Avedon. She said she’s going to law school now at Yale, but she thinks she’ll maybe drop out. She says it’s so hard, and that she can’t remember anything. I had the first really nice talk with Jackie O., but I don’t remember too much what it was about. Dennis Hopper told me he’s directing Junkie, the William Burroughs bio, and I made a faux pas by telling him he should use Mick for the star because then Dennis said that he was the star.”

Bevy Smith, Radio Host: “In 2012, I threw a dinner for Pharrell in the biggest bungalow at Château Marmont. It was the year he was doing the music for the Oscars, and the guest list was awesome: Cameron Diaz, Charlize Theron, Usher, Ellen Pompeo. During Oscar season there are so many parties, and there were even other parties happening at the Château that night. Chanel had a party that night, and there was another one for The Artist. André Balazs and Chelsea Handler came in and said, “This party is fun, we’re going to stay!” I told them they couldn’t, and Chelsea said, “He owns the joint,” and I had to tell her that he might, but it was rented to us for the night. They ended up coming in, but I didn’t have a seat for them at the table. What made it really beautiful was that people didn’t want to leave. Everyone came saying they’d probably have to go early, but they didn’t. It was such a great night.”

Nell Campbell, Actress and Club Owner: “The Nell’s years—so ripe with adventure. Stars were careful about behaving wickedly in public, so all that was reserved for my office. Stevie Wonder drank Dom with orange juice, and Peter Beard was surrounded by young women.”

Maureen Dowd, Columnist: “Sue Mengers was a portal back to the fun, sexy, glamorous Hollywood I loved. She would pull one of her ‘funny cigarettes’ from a silver box and give a hilarious, sultry, vulgar, extremely un-PC performance for the ‘twinklies’ she had gathered. The first woman to become the Man among Hollywood super-agents was a genie who could summon up a breathtaking cascade of stars: Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, Angie Dickinson, Lorne Michaels, Tim Robbins, Tina Fey, Tom Ford. She often started with tales of stars she had slept with, just to get the ball rolling.”

Geordon Nicol and Leigh Lezark, DJs: “When you’re in the business of parties, it’s difficult to choose just one, but one of the greatest of all time was when Madonna stopped by our party, the MisShapes at Luke & Leroy in the West Village [since closed]. It was 2005, smartphones weren’t everywhere, social media hadn’t ruined nightlife, and Madonna’s appearance was unannounced. She performed ‘Burning Up’ and “Into the Groove” and DJ’d with her producer Stuart Price for a club with a capacity of less than 300. It was very personal, very old New York, and probably the closest we’ll ever get to Studio 54. Spontaneous moments like that are few and far between.”

Rick Miramontez, Broadway Ringmaster: “In the early years our after-hours Tony parties were confined to one glamorously large suite at the Carlyle Hotel. When we outgrew it, we started taking over the hotel’s public spaces, like Bemelmans Bar and the Café Carlyle. Every year the challenge is how to make the downstairs spaces as exciting and sexy as the suite.  Sowhen we were planning our 2018 party, I asked Andrew Lloyd Webber (a Tony recipient that night) if he’d be willing to DJ the Café. Andrew sometimes hosts these legendary music nights at his country estate, Sydmonton, for everyone from Queen Elizabeth to Dame Shirley Bassey. On wilder nights he’ll get behind the turntables and spin until all hours, so I knew he wasn’t a novice. He graciously agreed, and people went nuts for it! At one point he started playing the old Brian Hyland tune ‘Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini,’ and I saw Nathan Lane grab his Tony and Glenda Jackson by the arm and rush her to the dance floor, and I remember thinking, This is the greatest party ever!”

Khloe Kardashion on Ignoring Haters, Beauty Secrets from Her Sisters and more

khloe kardashian,elle,

Khloé Kardashian opened up to ELLE.com about why she has little time for Instagram trolls who nitpick her appearance, prioritizing self-care, beauty secrets from her sisters, and her favorite sunscreen trick.

Khloé Kardashian Doesn’t Really Mind The Haters

On not giving into the negative comments online: “At first, [mean comments] would definitely bug me, and I’m like, what in the world?” she tells ELLE.com over Zoom. “I would never take my time to shame someone or be negative. I only comment nice and positive things. At first, I would let stuff like that affect me. And now I really don’t care. Maybe if I’m having a bad day. But typically, I would say 90 percent of the time, it doesn’t affect me.”

However, there are exceptions. “Sometimes I have to f**k with people a little bit,” she admits with a sly smile. “I try not to! I try to behave, but sometimes they’re just asking for it.”

On how she prioritizes self-care: “We definitely have a lot more time [in quarantine] to just pamper ourselves. I swear my hair was in conditioning masks for maybe a week straight. You have more time to make your routine and make sure you’re following through with some of the things that you would maybe be too busy to remember. I tried to stick to my routine that I had prior, because it was giving me a little sense of normal. At the very beginning, I would say the first couple of weeks was so scary that I had no motivation to work out or anything.”

On why her sisters have the best beauty advice: “[My sisters] are so inspiring for me. We always take tips and tricks. Kourtney loves skincare, but she loves very, very natural stuff. Which is great, but sometimes there’s a fine line too. She might like things that don’t work into my lifestyle. Definitely with hair, I think Kylie knows [best]. But there’s definitely different sisters I go to for different things. We were just on a text chain talking about toothpaste and fluoride. And Kendall, because she has her toothpaste company, was giving us so much insight. I’m like, “Oh my God. Okay.” It’s so funny when different sisters have different beauty obsessions.”

On the importance of sunscreen—especially on your hands! “I put sunscreen on my hands when I’m driving every time. You don’t realize your hands are exposed to the sun through your windshield. Your hands will age the fastest. You can’t really do a facelift for your hands or anything like that. So, take care of your hands. I’m a sunscreen junkie in the car more than anything.”

Harper’s BAZAAR Food Diaries “Everything Kate Hudson Eats in a Day”

Here is one of the latest videos on Harper’s BAZAAR’s YouTube Channel.

Harper’s BAZAAR

The latest episode of Food Diaries features actress, businesswoman, co-founder of Fabletics and mother to three, Kate Hudson. Kate breaks down a typical day of eats—from celery juice and soft-boiled eggs in the morning, to creamy pasta dishes and roasted chicken for dinner, and a few of Goldie Hawn’s favorite recipes, too.

Harper’s BAZAAR recently followed ‘Insecure’ creator and star Issa Rae as she prepared for this year’s unorthodox Emmy Awards. Instead of watching from the comfort of her home, Rae and her co-stars gathered at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood California, where they tuned in to the remotely filmed ceremony while dressed to the nines. While getting ready for the special night (‘Insecure’ had eight nominations), Rae spilled secrets about her co-stars, looked back at her favorite red carpet looks, and spoke on inclusivity and representation in the television industry.

The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF) held its 38th Annual Golf Tournament at the scenic Fresh Meadow Country Club in Lake Success, NY. The event was the first in-person fundraiser for the SWCRF in 2020, and although it was scaled down to allow for social distancing, the tournament raised $160,000. Funds raised support the SWCRF collaborative cancer research programs.

Notable attendees included Ann Liguori, Correspondent, WFAN & CBS Sports Radio Network, Samuel Waxman, MD, Founder and CEO of the SWCRF, Gary Jacob, Executive Vice President of Glenwood Management, Robert Ivanhoe, Vice Chair of Greenberg Traurig and Co-Chair of the REIT Practice, Peter D’Arcy, Area Executive of M&T Bank Corp, Jeff Mann, owner of Mann Publications, and William T. Sullivan, Executive Director of the SWCRF.

Following a beautiful brisk and sunny day on the course, golfers gathered for an open-air reception and awards program. “This tournament was started several years ago, and it has helped to raise substantial funds for cancer research. Despite these challenging times, today is an example of the great good that can come when friends gather to support research that is critically needed. More importantly, you are supporting research committed to finding better treatments for cancer, the world’s leading cause of suffering and premature mortality,” Samuel Waxman, M.D., founder and CEO of the SWCRF.

The American Cancer Society predicts that 1.8 million Americans – or more than 4,900 every day – will receive a cancer diagnosis this year. In 2020, the SWCRF directed more than $2.2 million in donor-supported funds to fund a record 50 research scientists at some of the world’s leading research institutions. The SWCRF research programs address more than 14 types of cancer and require that those who receive research funding, collaborate with labs outside of their disciplines and institutions. This type of collaboration fosters cooperation and knowledge sharing across labs and disciplines to speed the development of promising therapies.

Gary Jacob co-chairs the SWCRF Golf Tournament host committee with Dennis Herman, the Chairman and CEO of Beekman International Center, Ltd. Mr. Jacob and Mr. Herman also are members of the SWCRF Board of Directors. The committee members are Jeff Mann, Jay Sullivan, Director of Business Development at Shannon River Partners, Dr. Samuel Waxman, and Ari Zagdanski of Kinsman Property Group. The tournament is the organization’s longest-running event that has raised millions for cancer research. During the past 43 years, the SWCRF awarded nearly $100 million to support the work of more than 200 researchers around the world.  Gary Jacob and M&T Bank sponsored the Golf Tournament. Patron Sponsors were Capital One Commercial Banking and Ann Liguori. The Media Sponsor was Mann Publications.
