Elle Fanning is the cover star of Marie Claire’s February 2020 issue, on newsstands January 21.

Fanning, 21, is gearing up for her upcoming film, “All the Bright Places” which premieres on February 28 on Netflix.

Here for Marie Clair, Fanning opens up about the importance of speaking out about depression and mental health in young people – her love for vintage clothes – why Twitter scares her – how her relationship with Angelina Jolie changed over the course of filming Maleficent — and the piece of advice Nicole Kidman gave her that puts her at ease.

QUOTES

On the importance of her upcoming film, All the Bright Places: “Depression and mental illness in young people is so real, and it’s something people don’t want to talk about and want to shy away from. It has to be out there for people to see it, to get help, to not keep it hidden.”

On how Fanning relates to All the Bright Places: “At that age, I was experiencing first love and, like, relationships and just how impactful that is on your life. That never goes away for people. That first love is so intense and sets up so many things in your life. And also, not to get into too much, but it was also… not the best… It was kind of a tumultuous relationship.”

On her love for vintage clothing: “Some people are repulsed by that smell of vintage clothing, but I love it. I think it’s because I’m a very nostalgic person and I daydream a lot. I feel I was possibly born in the wrong era – those old movies, Grace Kelly, so gorgeous.”

On how her relationship with Angelina Jolie changed while filming Maleficent between age 14 and 21: “Angelina’s and my relationship definitely changed. She didn’t have to look at me as a kid; she didn’t have to censor what she could talk about. That was exciting, to have that relationship.”

On social media preferences: “Twitter scares me! Oh my God, Twitter is so intense. Instagram, I do enjoy.”

On the advice Nicole Kidman gave her about choosing projects: “Because a lot of people are all, ‘You have to be so delicate. You have to choose this,’ and Nicole [Kidman] is like, ‘It’s OK, you’re young! Freedom!’”

Oprah Talks Stedman, Marriage and Valentine’s Day

OprahMag.com

For Oprah’s What I Know For Sure column, she opens up about her longtime relationship with Stedman, including her first impression of him, why their relationship works and why they both agree they wouldn’t be together today if they had married.

This appears in O Mag’s February 2020 issue, breaking and on stands January 21st.

For a special Valentine’s Day-themed edition of OprahMag.com’s series, The OG Chronicles, Oprah and Gayle read from on-theme Hallmark cards as they weigh in on the right time to say that big first “I love you,” how to celebrate V-Day with a friend with benefits (spoiler alert: don’t), and more. They also touch on Valentine’s Day gift-giving, and Oprah even reveals the romantic gesture longtime partner Stedman Graham does for her each year.

OPRAH QUOTES:

On why Oprah doesn’t make a big deal about Valentine’s Day: “Lots of people make a big deal about Valentine’s Day. I don’t—and haven’t since I was a young contestant in the Miss Black America Pageant (I was Miss Black Tennessee). Many of the other girls were receiving flowers and gifts from their beaux. My boyfriend at the time, Bubba—yes, real name—sent me nothing. I felt bad about that and complained to another contestant. She laid this wisdom on me: “Girl, if your man has put a flower on your mind, you won’t need no flowers in a vase!”

On her first impression of Stedman and why she thought he was a ‘player’: “I thought he was nice enough, but I wasn’t that impressed. He was polite, yes, and kind. The sort of guy who sits with an ailing friend. Tall and handsome, for sure. But actually too handsome, I thought, to be interested in me. I figured he must be a player. So did all myproducers. They warned me not to get involved with that Stedman guy.Aside from his appearance, they knew nothing about him. But anybody that good-lookingdriving a vintage Mercedes merited suspicion. So I proceeded with caution, even with afriendship. It wasn’t until months later, when Ilearned he’d broken up with his girlfriend andhad been inquiring about my dating status, thatI gave him a serious thought.”

On saying yes to Stedman’s proposal and then realizing she didn’t want a marriage: In 1993, the moment after I said yes to his proposal, I had doubts. I realized I didn’t actually want a marriage. I wanted to be asked. I wanted to know he felt I was worthy of being his missus, but I didn’t want the sacrifices, the compromises, the day-in-day-out commitment required to make a marriage work. My life with the show was my priority, and we both knew it. He and I agree that had we tied the marital knot, we would not still be together.”

On why their relationship works: “Our relationship works because he created an identity beyond being “Oprah’s man” (he teaches Identity Leadership around the world and has written multiple books on the subject). And because we share all the values that matter (integrity being number one). And because werelish seeing the other fulfill and manifest their destiny and purpose. It’s what Gary Zukav defines as a spiritual partnership: partnership between equals for the purpose of spiritual growth. I know for sure it’s the ultimate flower on my mind.”

Jennifer Lawrence, the Academy Award-winning star of Silver Linings Playbook, The Hunger Games, and American Hustle put her stunning New York penthouse in The Laurel up for sale last July and, with a downturn in the Manhattan luxury-condo market, has lowered the original price of $15.45 million to $14.25 million – now down to $12 million.

Purchased in 2016 for $15.6 million, taking a loss on the property might not faze one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood. Though Lawrence got her big break in New York, she now spends her time in Los Angeles close to the studios.

TOPTENREALESTATEDEALS.COM

Lawrence lived the fairy tale that so many people fantasize about. As a teenager who was born and raised in Kentucky and acting in plays put on by her church group, it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time when on a 2006 vacation trip to New York with her parents at age 14, she was discovered by a talent scout who arranged an audition. The audition went so well, they convinced her parents to let her audition in Los Angeles and her star was on the fast track leading quickly to television and film roles.

Fast forward to today at age 29, she has won an Academy Award for Best Actress in Silver Linings Playbook and three Golden Globes, a BAFTA award, seven MTV Movie Awards and six People’s Choice Awards. Her unassuming, down-to-earth personality and ability to keep life’s priorities straight in the face of fame, fortune and continuous media attention has made her America’s girl next door – and it doesn’t hurt that her acting roles have been some of the best in Hollywood.

By 2016, Lawrence could afford any living accommodations that suit her fancy and she picked a glamorous duplex penthouse on New York’s Upper East Side at the top of The Laurel, a 30-story condominium. Aside from its stunning interior and views to die for, its 3,000-square-foot, two-floor outdoor terraces encompass all one could ask for gracious entertaining including an outdoor kitchen, fireplace with pergola, built-in ping pong table and amazing views of the city and Hudson River.  The 4,073-square-foot apartment has three bedrooms, five baths and is filled with light through walls of glass. The formal living and dining room is surrounded by stunning city views and the eat-in chef’s kitchen has everything for the serious cook. The master suite is unusually large and the game room opens to yet another spectacular view. The building’s amenities include a concierge, full-time doorman, gym, pool, sauna, screening room and private storage.

The newly married actress is now selling her glamorous New York Pethouse for $12 million. The listing agent is Pamela D’Arc of Compass, New York City.

Lauder also opens up about what her grandmother, Estée, taught her about jewelry, jewelry mementos she’s received, and what she loves about discovering new pieces.

On what her grandmother, Estée Lauder, taught her about jewelry: “The day I was born Estée gave my mother a pair of Buccellati diamond and pearl earrings, which my mother just recently gave to me. Diamonds are my birthstone, and these earrings are a very special and meaningful tradition. I still wear them today, on my birthday and for special occasions.”

On jewelry mementos: “When my first child was born, my husband gave me a pair of green Verdura beads. I still have them and always think about that special moment in my life. I also have a silver heart ring from Tiffany’s from my older son, Jack. My mother made the mistake of taking him to Tiffany’s when he was a little boy, and he had a temper tantrum because he wanted to get me a sapphire ring. Instead she took him up to the silver floor, and he got me this.”

On discovery emerging jewelers: “Jewelry is a strong category for us within our lifestyle concept. We have done collaborations with Mercedes Salazar and Rebecca de Ravenel. I was the first to launch Rebecca’s famous Les Bonbons earrings, and we were her first big partner. It makes me smile when I see the success of her business. We have also done some beautiful, iconic pieces for our brand, which are inspired by vintage design, such as our Agneta necklace.”
