Waiting On Fantasia
American Idol winner 2004 Fantasia supposedly has a new album coming out. Simon said Fantasia was the best to come out of Fox’s number one show. Fantasia has had her ups and downs but Fantasia can sing and that is really all that matters. Or is it? Will Fantasia bring it this time to the extent that we know she can? Only time will tell but what I can tell you is that Fantasia has got what it takes to adore us with her vocals and presence and be one of those singers that we flock to see. She’s got the whole package. Can she get it together? My fingers are crossed and I’m still waiting on that release date.
MADONNA ‘LIKE A DIRECTOR’
Superstar Madonna is currently directing her first feature-length movie in London. The film, titled “W.E.” follows the story of the romance between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, an American socialite that led the crowned king to abdicate his throne to marry his divorcee lover. They lived the rest of their lives as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and became world celebrities but were exiled from Britain and could not get back into the good graces of the Royal family. To some, this was the love story of the century but to others it was a scandal that threatened the monarchy. In reality, the story is about a Prince who wanted to be like everyone else. One of Britain’s most respected acting families, James Fox and Laurence Fox star along with Abbie Cornish, Ryan Phillippe’s ex-girlfriend. This will be the second directing effort for the woman who wears many hats, and who also has a new clothing line for Macy’s coming out August 3rd with her designing daughter Lourdes. ‘Mr. Sunshine’ Illuminates Matthew Perry
Matt Le Blanc isn’t the only friend coming to television with a new show. Matthew Perry will join Friends alum, Courteney Cox at ABC with Mr. Sunshine, playing a sports arena manager this fall going through a mid-life crisis at 40. Allison Janney plays his hysterical boss and Nate Torrence is her son who is most famous for his role as a credit card customer opposite David Spade in those hilarious Capitol One commercials. Andrea Anders, who played Matt LeBlanc’s girlfriend in the short lived ‘Joey,’ will now bed hop and play Perry’s love interest in Mr. Sunshine. Miami Newbie LeBron James hosts a night out at LAVO nightclub at The Palazzo Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. LeBron, who turned down apples for oranges, looks like he’s dressed to kill and ready to take on the NBA. Let’s just hope for his sake he doesn’t end up a lemon.
Dick Wolf Books Alfred Molina for Law & Order: LA
TV mogul Dick Wolf (pictured here) just hired the veteran actor to play the Deputy D.A. in L&O’s newest spinoff, and he’ll join Skeet Ulrich who plays one of the lead detectives. Molina is just coming off a Tony-nominated run on Broadway in ‘Red,’ and is currently in Bruckheimer’s ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,’ and Ulrich had a running role as a killer on ‘CSI: NY’ last year. Skeet Ulrich, who starred in ‘Jericho’ but only appealed to a small audience, has a great chance now of finding a hit with Molina attached because he is the perfect L&O audience. NBC’s Law & Order: Los Angeles begins filming August 2nd and premieres in September
TARGET OPENS IN EAST HARLEM TOMORROW
The stars were shining on East Harlem the other night when the Seinfeld’s, Russell Simmons, Bethenny Frankel and Yankee Nick Swisher’s fiancé and Gossip Girl Joanna Garcia, walked the red carpet at the new Target Store opening tomorrow. Local veteran Hip Hop artist Doug E. Fresh performed while Top Chef Master Marcus Samuelsson, who has a new restaurant opening in the neighborhood, showcased his new cooking line. Now Kmart, the only other big retailer in the city with two locations, has some major competition.
Julia Roberts Brother Checks into “Celebrity Rehab”
Accomplished actor Eric Roberts is the newest addition to Vh1’s Celebrity Rehab. Arrested in 1987 for cocaine possession, his Publicist told WENN, “It’s not for anything serious. He’s not hooked on prescription meds or hard drugs or anything like that.” The 54 year old skilled and handsome star joins a cast which includes Tiger Wood’s mistress, Rachel Uchitel and Party of Five star Jeremy London. Obama’s New Bill Discussion on Meet the Press
This Sunday on ‘Meet the Press’, the topic of convo will be the economy and jobs, which is on the minds of most Americans this summer, as President Obama just signed two major pieces of financial legislation this week. One restores and extends unemployment benefits for over 2 million Americans while the other is a Wall Street reform bill. The parties are of course in disagreement but one thing we can all agree on is that all those searching for jobs need to get back to work. Brad Pitt to Make “Zombie” Movie
Brad Pitt Just signed on to star in Paramount’s big screen adaptation of “World War Z,” a book written by Max Brooks, the son of Mel Brooks and the late Anne Bancroft. Pitt will play a researcher fighting against the zombies taking over the world. An excited Max Brooks broke the news to MTV at San Diego’s Comic-Con, where coincidentally Angelina just happened to be (wearing black leather) promoting her new movie “Salt.” The talented Marc Forster who directed Halle Berry right to an Oscar will direct.
