Vogue Editrix and total diva Anna Wintour, has had her panties in a tizzy ever since the news broke that nightlife impresario Serge Becker(La Esquina) has his eyes on a new hot spot down the street from her fancy Village townhouse. Anna, along with her entourage, cat walked into the community board meeting last week to argue against it, claiming it will bring the wrong element into the neighborhood. The space which they want to call Miss Lily, used to be Le Gamin, a popular cozy French bistro for years with a dimly lit backyard garden. Nothing has been decided yet but the fashion darling and some of her neighbors are not happy. Look at the bright side Anna, you won’t have to go far for delicious Jamaican food which Miss Lily plans on serving. You may even be able to save a phone call and yell your order from your terrace.
Mr. T Slams New A-Team Picture
Mr. T, the original star of The A-Team TV series, criticized the remake big time. Real name Laurence Tureaud, Mr. T who played the Sergeant told Yahoo! Movies that, “one of the main problems with the film is that it features too much sex and violence. People die in the film and there’s plenty of sex but when we did it, no one got hurt and it was all played for fun and entertainment.” The actor, who was in Rocky III and is a pro wrestler, stated that it was also too graphic. Wow, go figure. Mr. T, tough on the outside, soft on the inside. Sounds like the Producers forgot to extend and olive branch cameo out to the Mohawk hairstyle actor.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Teen actor Brian Backer who portrayed shy teenager ‘Rat’ in the 80’s coming-of-age teen comedy smash Fast Times At Ridgemont High, (on the left) walking solo down East 56th Street today. The film catapulted the careers of many of today’s top stars including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Cage, Forrest Whitaker, Eric Stoltz and of course Sean Penn. It also produced Best Actor Oscars for Nick, Forrest and Sean, who went on to win twice. Brian, who doesn’t have an Academy Award, does has the same baby face he had back then.
BP, BIG PUTZ
BP, go home. Watching the continuous footage from the British Petroleum Oil spill is so surreal, that you think you’re watching a Hollywood movie being made. Instead, its a real life nightmare unfolding in front of your very eyes. James Cameron had a meeting with Big Putz to discuss his underwater filming experience to see if he could offer any help, while Kevin Costner made a cameo appearance in front of Congress to discuss his Oil-Cleanup Machinery. If I didn’t know any better, I would think I was sitting in on the casting for next summer’s big blockbuster, “Disaster in the Gulf” starring Academy Award winner Kevin Costner and to be directed by Academy Award winner James Cameron. Apparently, the audition went well and Costner wooed them because his machinery, that separates oil from water, has been ordered by Big Putz and should be out on the water by the end of August. Leave it to Hollywood to save the day. BP, go home
No Bourne without Talented Damon
Universal is going forward with putting together the fourth installment of the Jason Bourne franchise and they are considering it without star, Matt Damon. According to Variety, Matt has agreed to portray the hitman character in the tentatively titled ‘The Bourne Legacy’ only if director Paul Greengrass continues to be attached. Tony Gilroy, who wrote all three Bourne movies, has agreed to write the script. Damon, who just received his first lifetime achievement honor, (yes, he’s only 39) the American Cinematheque Award, won an Oscar over a decade ago and continues to headline blockbusters. Studio, I’ll say it again. There is no Bourne movie without The Talented Mr. Damon.
BETHENNY GETS MARRIED?
Bethenny Frankel, the breakout star of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City, got her own show and it premieres tonight at 10p. It chronicles her new life with fiancé Jason Hoppy, her career as a chef and follows her all the way to giving birth to new daughter, Bryn. The funny, clever chef and author got her reality start on Martha Stewart’s Apprentice show five years ago and made it to the finale but lost. During a media call recently, Bethenny told reporters that Alex and Ramona make appearances but Jill is nowhere to be found because she is not in her life. Bethenny said, “Jill is not on my show because Jill’s not in my life. She added, “This is a time I really want people who are good for me and good for my family, and like, I want clean energy and everything to be happy, and I want Bryn to have her life to be perfect for as long as she possibly can.” As far as her future on The ‘Housewives,’ Frankel alluded to the fact that she may have run out of things to say on that show. Considering her new show takes over the prime time slot where this seasons Real Housewives of New York City left off, it’s sure to be just as captivating and must see TV. The new mom sounds like she’s got it all figured out.
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
It was ladies night and it felt alright. The race is on for Senators and Governors and the women are in the lead. From South Carolina to California, Blanche Lincoln, Sharron Angle, Nikki Haley, Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman are the women candidates who we are going to be hearing a lot about in the coming months, especially, Meg and Carly. Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina, both mega-successful American Businesswomen, won the primary vote last night and are on the GOP campaign ticket for the California Election. Meg Whitman, the former CEO of eBay, who will run against Jerry Brown, the current Attorney General and former Governor, spent around 70 million of her own billion dollar fortune and plans on replacing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. And Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett Packard, spent millions of her own million dollar fortune, to face Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer for the Senate seat. These sums are rumored to be the most money ever spent on a campaign. With five months left before the general election, both campaigns are expected to be even more costly and much more competitive. One thing for sure, these women who are tough and tireless, focused and determined ran two of the world’s largest corporations ever, which is nothing short of a major feat. Seems like voter frustration has spoken and the women are being called upon to make changes. Sorry guys.
ROB & RECREATION
Eternally young looking Rob Lowe walks with his two handsome sons in Los Angeles. Seasoned actor Lowe, who recently got killed off of ABC’s Brothers & Sisters, jumped ship to rival network NBC to join hilarious Amy Poehler in Parks & Recreation, for more of a leading role. It was rumored that Rob was unhappy on B&S for whatever reason and may have been itching for more screen time. NBC was thrilled to get the forever gorgeous actor to bring in the female audience ala Alec Baldwin and hit series 30 Rock. Whether he is a permanent character on P&R is unknown. Right now, no one is talking.
